,Lesson outline:

Starter: Introduce alkalis as the opposites of acids
Remind pupils that alkalis and acids are chemical opposite 

Have three beakers at the front. One contains an acid, one 
an alkali and one is fresh water.  Pupils use Litmus to tell 
the difference
 
Litmus is an indicator, it tells us if something is acid or
alkali
 
Pupils make indicator from red cabbage.  Find the colours
when in weak and strong acid/alkali.  Sheet 7Ec/1 (easy),
7Ec/2 (middle) and 7Ec/3 (harder).
